Phenolate Constrained Geometry Polymerization Catalyst and Methods for Preparing

技术优势
High olefin polymerization activity suitable for commercial production under ambient conditions. Improved catalyst preparation, stability and Ziegler-Natta polymerization activity are observed versus other CGC systems.
详细技术说明
Scientists at Northwestern University have created a unique constrained geometry catalyst (CGC) for olefin polymerization by a simple cost effective one step-synthesis. Upon activation with strong Lewis acid cocatalysts efficient polymerization of ethylene, propylene and styrene is realized.

ADVANTAGE

High olefin polymerization activity suitable for commercial production under ambient conditions. Improved catalyst preparation, stability and Ziegler-Natta polymerization activity are observed versus other CGC systems.

SUMMARY

A unique stable CGC catalytic complex (Ar?R4)(O)(Ar"R?4)M(CH2Ph)2 has been created in a direct one-step process for M = Ti, Zr. A new bifunctional mono Cp phenolate ligand provides catalyst steric and electronic flexibility. Solid and solution state characterization and chemistry were established. In the presence of cocatalysts {Ph3C+B(Ar3F)4-} or methyl alumoxane an efficient olefin polymerization catalyst at ambient conditions is produced. Thus ethylene (2.1 x 1066 g /[mol cat-atm-h]), and styrene (4.3 x 107 g /[mol cat-mol styrene-h]) polymerization activities were realized in toluene solvent at 25°C. A variety of polymer properties can be realized with this catalytic system.
