*Abstract: Disclosedis a compound represented by the general formula shown below, which can bind toa retinoid X receptor (RXR)(which is one of nuclear receptors) to exhibit anagonistic or antagonistic activity on the receptor wherein R1 is selected fromthe group consisting of an alkyl group, an alkenyl group, an alknyl group andan aryl group; R2 is selected from the group consisting of an alkoxy group, analkyl group, an alkenyl group, an alkynyl group and an aryl group; W representsNR3 or CR3; R3 is selected from a hydrogen, an alkyl group, an alkenyl group,an alkynyl group and an aryl group; X1 and Y1 are independently selected fromCH and N; X2 and Y2 are independently selected from CH, CR4 and N;R4 isselected from an alkyl group, an alkenyl group, anlkynyl group, an alkoxygroup, a halogen,a nitro group and an amino group; and Z is selected from a carboxylic acid, acarboxylate ester and a hydroxamic acid which is bound directly or via an alkylgroup, an alkenyl group or an alkynyl group.
