A new class of polybenzoxazine compositions where oxazine rings are part of the polymer main-chain. These compounds provide excellent mechanical and thermal properties, with good handling capability for material processing and composite manufacturing. The polymerization reaction can be achieved with or without an added initiator or catalyst, without releasing volatile reaction by-products nor requiring strong acid or alkaline catalysts. Almost no shrinkage is achieved upon polymerization. Additional benefits include lower-cost, main-chain benzoxazine oligomers with excellent physical properties and ease of processing.
