The present invention relates to the use of nitrated fatty acids as therapeutics for treating type-2 diabetes. Fatty acids are both physiological energy sources and mediators of signaling events involved, for example, in inflammation and in energy homeostasis.Applications1) The anti-diabetic effects exerted by NO2-FA could aid in treating type-2 diabetes-and related cardiovascular disease.AdvantagesThiazolidinediones or TZDs exert beneficial anti-diabetic effects, but their widespread therapeutic application is hindered by peripheral edema leading to weight gain, and increased risk of cardiac failure. NO2-FA administration demonstrates anti-diabetic effects without the previously mentioned side effects which occur clinically with TZD use.National Phase and PCT Patent Applications filed
