- ANU researchers have developed a novel superhydrophobic sprayable nanocoating comprised of two layers:
• the first layer imparts durability and chemical resistance, and is a sprayable interpenetrated polymer network (IPN) comprised of polyurethane (PU) and polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA);
• the second layer imparts functionality and is comprised of fluorofunctionalised silica (FSiO2).
The spray conditions used for each layer play an important role in creating a rough durable surface that confers outstanding superhydrophobicity with static water contact and sliding angles of 159° and 0°, respectively.
