Oncology deals with the identification of tumors and pre-cancerous cells in the human body. Currently, this is done by various clinical procedures, some of which involve imaging. These tests can not be done in real time during surgeries. The result is often an incomplete identification of the tumors and infected cells, a road-block for patient’s recovery. Incomplete diagnostic leads to highly expensive repeated test and surgeries. The cost of repeated breast cancer surgeries due to miss-identification of tumors reaches 840M$ annually in the US alone. A diagnostic tool capable of operating inside the surgery room and providing real time identification of the tumor is therefore of high need.Our technology enables accurate and safe identification of cancerous cells during surgery, while the patient is still on the operating table. The cancer probe is designed to guide the surgeon in the operating room, overcoming existing limitations as it is accurate, low cost, portable and capable of real time operation. The probe marks cancer cells which may be found on the tumor margins for complete removal, based on the unique fingerprints of molecules in the Infra-Red (IR) range. A breakthrough bi-photons emitter probe provides selectable IR light at room temperature. The probe uses correlated and entangled photons to enhance the tissues Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) readouts. Until this breakthrough such bi-photon emitters were extremely expensive; our technology enables micrometer sized sources which cost cents. A unique algorithm analyzes the signal and identifies the tissue fingerprints. The device is based on mature semiconductor manufacturing capabilities which enable hand held operation and is suitable for invasive procedures.
