Iron Complexes for Stereospecific Oxidation and Bleach Activation

Detailed Technology Description
None
*Abstract

Iron complexes for stereospecific oxidation and bleach activation can be used for stain removal, to inhibit dye transfer, and, alternatively, stereospecific oxidation of organic substrates, particularly stereospecific hydroxylation and epoxidation. The bleach and oxidation catalyst comprises a catalytically active iron (Fe) complex which activates hydrogen peroxide or peroxy acids. This catalyst uses a method of stereospecifically oxidizing an organic compound by combining it with a peroxy compound and oxidatively resistant iron complex. This provides a class of iron complexes that are surprisingly stable and active toward oxidation. These iron complexes display high catalytic oxidation activity, particularly stereospecific oxidation, in the presence of a peroxy compound or precursor. The iron complexes include tetradentate ligands and other ligands that are displaceable by the peroxy compound. One use for the iron complex is in stereospecifically oxidizing an organic substrate by combining the substrate with a peroxy compound with an oxidativelv resistant iron complex catalyst.
