Omniphobic coating

詳細技術說明

Executive Summary Hydrophobic coatings can be observed in an abundance of industries. From anti-corrosion ship hulls, smudge and water protection of touchscreen devices, and linings of distillation columns the immense dissemination of protective coatings for polymers has driven the research field towards more efficient and hydrophobic compositions. Characteristics such as optical clarity, durability, and practical application are key when distinguishing the best hydrophobic coating.  Description of Technology  The invention described is a process for generating an optically clear, durable and self-cleaning epoxy, polyurethane (or other materials such as acrylics, or alkyds) omniphobic coating. To form the coating an initial epoxy coating is created and drop cast onto the desired substrate (glass, metal, etc.) after a pre-determined amount of time, PDMS-NCO is applied via a cotton ball or cotton roller and then air dried to set and cured. The result is a polymer that contains a matrix of PDMS-NCO that are highly resistant to water, oil, and graffiti.  This non-graft approach is a significant advancement in the ease of implementation and automation of a historically challenging problem. Key BenefitsHighly dispersed PDMS enhances barrier properties relative to industry alternatives. Can be applied using a variety of polymers such as: epoxy, polyurethane, acrylics, alkyds, epoxy/graphene, epoxy/cellulose nanocrystals, etc.Reduced process complexity compared to graft copolymer method. ApplicationsAnti-Rust and Anti-BiofoulingCivil InfrastructureUnderground Machinery and MaterialsWind Turbine Blade CoatingShip Hull CoatingStain-Free Materials/FabricsWater Resistant Clothing/FabricAnti-Ice DevicesAnti-Microbial SurfacingChemical Resistant Devices Patent Status:  Patent Pending Licensing Rights Available All rights available Inventors: Dr. Muhammad Rabnawaz, Dr. Fahad Khan Tech ID: TEC2018-0041
