Title: Polygon X-Prism for Imaging and Display Applications Invention: The invention is a prism with more than three output facets, by including additional optical interfaces inside the cube. For example, all six facets of the cube can be used such that one facet is the input and five facets are the outputs. The invention can apply to even large polygonal prisms, utilizing all facets of the polygonal prism. Background: A conventional x-prism splits an incoming light beam into three beams with equal path lengths and different directions. When operated in revers, the x-prism acts as a combiner that combines three lights beams from different directions into one beam with equal path lengths. In some applications, however, it is beneficial to split an incoming light beam into more than three components using a passive optical element that has a compact form factor.
