Overview

Thecleanup of acid gasses, such as CO2, from natural gas has been anextensively practiced technology.  While several technologies exist for theremoval of acid gasses, one of the most commonly employed practices is the useof aqueous amines.  The application of CO2capture to post-combustion flue gas separation has recently been an areaof major concern.  On the long term, it is thought that this technology will becritical to reducing emissions from fossil fuel combustion potentiallyresponsible for climate change. UK researchers are developing a more efficientmethod to remove CO2 from fossil fuel boiler flue gas using entrained particleadditives in liquid solvents.

 

 

 

Invention

Theinvention described here is a method related to a more efficient removal of CO2from fossil fuel boiler flue gas using entrained particle additives in liquidsolvents.  The entrained particles in liquid solvent perform as liquid filmturbulence enhancer, resulting in both a reduction in the boundary layerthickness and an increase in CO2 molecules and solvent active componentdiffusion, which is usually a rate-limiting step for the CO2 capturesolvents with fast CO2 reaction kinetics.
