Novel 3D imaging method for measuring produce size
- 詳細技術說明
- The inventionis a device for ultra-fast 3D imaging of produce for assessment of quality andproductivity, and was developed using Vidalia onions as a test subject. Size isan essential quality attribute which needs to be measured in postharvestsorting, packing, and shipping of onions. Additionally, the lower content ofnatural disease inhibitors in Vidalia onions makes proper sorting and gradingeven more important. Currently available methods of measuring onion volume anddensity are not available, with only 2D scanning technology widely available.
- *Abstract
-
Thisinvention from Dr. Charlie Li measures sweet onion diameter, volume, anddensity in a nondestructive manner by using imaging methods based on anRGB-depth (RGB-D) sensor. Using patent-pending algorithms, the system is ableto estimate onion diameter to 99.14% accuracy and onion density accuracy to96.1%. The scanning mechanism can also be parametrized for use with many otherproduce items such squash, bell peppers, tomatoes, potatoes, and other fruitsand vegetables.
