This disclosure includes an innovative metal or nonmetal ring or any other closed shape that is placed in bedjoint mortar in masonry work to provide lateral confinement. This confinement solves the problem of having brittle and early failure in the masonry unit. The developed ring or other closed shape is easy to use and produce. Placing the ring in the mortar joint does not slow the construction speed and is inexpensive to produce.
