Ultrasonic Modulation of Tissue Optical Properties for Increased Light Transmission

詳細技術說明
None
*Abstract
Clinical Laser with Ultrasound EnhancementThis device utilizes a laser with simultaneous ultrasonic pulsation to increase forward transmission of incident light. The ultrasonic pulsation is able to locally modulate the refractive index, and displace scatters and absorbers within the tissue. The altered optical properties of the biological tissue result in increased light transmission through the tissue. The increased forward transmission corresponds with a greater portion of incident light reaching the clinical target. This technology has applications for ablation of tattoos, veins, moles, cancer, scars, as well as any other external application of cosmetic lasers. The ultrasonic pulsation could also improve any therapies involving any photochemical or photomechanical action. Another application of this device is imaging of biological tissue using photoacoustic tomography. Improved light transmission will likely benefit treatment efficacy, treatment effectiveness, and imaging depth. Increased forward transmission will likely also benefit safety and may also diminish negative treatment side-effects.Potential Areas of Application• Laser cosmetic procedures • Laser dermatology procedures• Intense pulsed light (IPL) procedures• Surgical ablation• Laser-based medical imaging• Photoacoustic tomographyPatent Status: Patent PendingInventor: Paul James Douglas Whiteside, Nicholas J.
