3D Printed Orthopedic Implants to Improve Osseointegration
- 詳細技術說明
- LSU researchers have developed 3D printed metallic implants that promote bone growth and attachment as well as suppress infectious bacterial growth for use as a dental or other orthopedic implant. The implant contains a network of interconnecting pores loaded with stem cell attracting materials and antibacterial agents in order to generate bone tissue while preventing the bacterial growth at the implant site.
- *Abstract
-
The implant itself can be made from a variety of metals such as titanium, silver, or gold, among others. The implanted device attracts stem cells that will generate more supporting tissue alongside the osteoclasts strengthening the implant’s integration. The antibacterial reagent will neutralize and kill off infectious bacteria that might disrupt the integration process. Coupled together these two components create an innovative solution to the many failed dental and orthopedic implant procedures.
