An organ-specific feature enhancement filter as well asa probabilistic model has been developed to improve the reliability ofsegmentation of medical images. The method quantifies and represents theunderlying region of interest as a probability map based on a set of featureswhich subsequently enhances the ROI to be segmented, e.g. by 3-D deformablemodels. Segmentation is, therefore, guided by the probability map instead oforiginal gray value data.
