- *Abstract
-
Fluence field modulated computed tomography (FFMCT) proposes a newparadigm for CT imaging that attempts to better manage the tradeoff betweenimage quality and dose to the patient. In this approach, the pattern of X-rayfluence incident on the patient is dynamically changed during the scan, guidedby dose and image quality models that are task and/or patient specific.Research has indicated that FFMCT can potentially deliver user-prescribed,regionally-varying image quality objectives, while reducing radiation exposureto the patient, which according to the most recent publication may be on theorder of 30-50% depending on the application. The technique is being improvedregularly as evidenced by the string of publications.
