Electrostatic Coating of Metal Thin Layers with Adjustable Film Properties

詳細技術說明
Title: Electrostatic Coating of Metal Thin Layers with Adjustable Film Properties Invention: The present invention allows for the deposition of metal layers with tunable properties for the development and improvement of electroplating methods. Background: Surface properties of a base metal are modified using metal finishing processes, which impart a particular attribute to the surface. Specific surface properties, such as corrosion or oxidation resistance, color, attractive appearance, wear resistance, optical properties, electrical resistance, or thermal protection are provided to the metal, by thin films of material, which can be bonded to the metals. Surface treatment of metals plays a major role in extending the life of metals, such as in automotive bodies and construction materials. It is also used in equipment that increases safety or reduces consumption of other raw materials (e.g. plating of aerospace and automotive braking and suspension systems, plating precision fuel injectors for automotive engines to reduce fuel consumption, plating materials for cans to preserve food, etc.). The main environmental impacts relate to energy and water consumption, the consumption of raw materials, emissions to surface and ground waters, solid and liquid wastes and the site condition on cessation of activities. Applications: Automotive and transportationPackagingBuilding and constructionInexpensive and simple modifications  Advantages:  Uniform over the entire surface even if the shape is highly complex, provided there is sufficient agitation to a maintain fresh, undepleted solution in contact with all surfaces at all timesDeposits are typically less porous than the same metal deposited electrolyticallyGreatly simplifies cracking or fixingNon-conductors (such as plastic) are coatedSince the deposit is an alloy of the metal and a compound formed from the reducing agent, deposits often have special chemical or physical properties  Licensing Manager:  Robert SleeperRobertS@tla.arizona.edu(520) 626-4604
