RIN Gene for Use in Manipulation of Fruit Quality and Ethylene Response
- 詳細技術說明
- The invention provides methods and compositions for the modification of plant phenotypes with the RIN (ripening-inhibitor) and MC (macrocalyx) genes.
- *Abstract
-
Cornell researchers have identified the amino acid sequence of the RIN, which are involved inthe primary regulation of ripening.
Ripening is a unique and important plant process whoseunderstanding has great significance in the crop production. Isolation of genesregulating both the ethylene and non-ethylene mediated components of fruitripening represents an important step in understanding the genetic basis of thiscomplex developmental pathway and developing methods to improve fruit ripeningqualities.
The RIN gene from tomato has been isolated. The RIN gene isassociated with fruit ripening qualities and ethylene response, e.g.shelf-life, texture, color, flavor, aroma, and most other ripening parameters.Manipulation of the RIN gene, e.g. repression or over expression may providebetter control in the ripening of fruit. The effects on other fruit species canbe predicted from the tomato RIN mutant. The ability to ripen other tissues ispredicted based on the effects of the RIN mutation and will be tested via RINgene over-expression in tomato (non-fruit tissues).
