*Abstract

Recent research has led to the development of a method of identifying deceptive Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signals. GNSS signals, critical for increasingly popular GPS devices as well as other navigation tools can be spoofed using well known techniques, and constantly evolving methods can make these spoofed signals undetectable to current civilian receivers. The new method is able to detect spoofing of unencrypted civilian signals by analyzing segments of encrypted signals sent along with the unencrypted signals. Verifying the presence of true encrypted signals confirms that the unencrypted signals have not been spoofed. With the importance and ubiquity of location based systems, this important technology can provide a higher level of security in a wide range of applications.
