Abstract of US Patent 6,342,181 - Corrosion Resistant Nickle-Based Alloy: A nickel based, high silicon alloy exhibits very high corrosion resistance in high temperature sulfuric acid environments. The alloy may be cast and is sufficiently ductile to be fabricated and machined. The alloy is ductile and has sufficient resistance to mechanical and thermal shock to be reliable in service when used as rotating parts. The alloy may have the following composition, in percent by weight: (see patent for chart).Non-Confidential Abstract of Invention: A new alloy has been developed for applications requiring long term exposures to boiling sulfuric acid over a wide ranger of concentrations. Previously available materials are not capable of being used over the concentration range of 65% to 80%, due to very rapid corrosion rates at certain concentrations in that range. This new alloy has very low corrosion rates over the entire range. It is also castable and machinable.
