University of MissouriOffice of Technology Management & Industry RelationsNon-Confidential Abstract of InventionUM Disclosure No. 10UMC017ENHANCED THIN DISK LASER PERFORMANCE WITH NEAR ISOTHERMAL CONTROLPreviously, thin disk lasers have demonstrated poor beam quality at higher powers (>100 watts), and increased thermal stress in the lasing crystal, resulting in damage and breaking. An integrated thin disk, thermal management system is provided to greatly improve thin disk laser beam quality at higher powers and also extending lifetime performance, thus increasing the overall thin disk laser performance. This invention presents a novel application of the unique thermal management system by providing an isothermal thin disk laser medium leading to greater beam quality performance with a single mode laser operation. Another highlight of the present invention is cost reduction and minimal maintenance.
