Novel Microwave Devices Based on Spintronics
- 詳細技術說明
- Spintronics, or spin electronics, refers to the study of the role played by electron spin in solid state physics, and possible devices that specifically exploit spin properties instead of or inaddition to charge degrees of freedom, This invention presents a series of novel microwave devices based onmagnetic tunnel junctions (MJT) also known as spintronic devices in whichelectrical properties are influenced by spin polarized electrons. The detectionof microwaves from electrons provides advanced solutions to microprocessor andsignal detection. Electrons canspin in one of two directions--either down or up--and carry vast amounts ofdata on the magnetic spin currents they generate while using much less energythan present-day electronic devices.Among all the spintronicdevices, MTJ offers the largest magneto-resistance. As shown in Fig. 1(a), thecentral component in a MTJ is composed of an insulating layer sandwiched by twoferromagnetic layers. An antiferromagnetic layer usually fixes themagnetization of one of the two ferromagnetic layers, while the otherferromagnetic magnetization is free to rotate. The resistance of MTJ stronglydepends on the relative orientation of magnetizations of these twoferromagnetic layers as illustrated
