Algorithms and system architecture for Faster-than-Nyquist(FTN) transmission rates and higher spectral efficiency over existingcommunications channels taking advantage of rapidly increasing computing powerand advances in microelectronics to dramatically increase the spectralefficiency of any communication transmission systems, including inclusion in 5Gstandards.As the amount of data passing over Internet continues toincrease, there is a continual search for methods of transmission that wouldincrease the speed and amount of data transmitted. The theoretical work forFaster-Than-Nyquist transmission began with Jim Mazo at the Mathematics ofCommunication Research Department of Bell Laboratories in the 1970’s. Thetheory of Faster-Than-Nyquist transmission is that non-orthogonal transmissioncan send data up to twice as fast as ordinary modulation with current bandwidthconstraints. However the practical difficulties of commercializing thetechnology proved to be more formidable than the state of microelectronics andcomputing power at that time. Advances in both areas have allowed for solutionof these problems today.Accordingly, the invention is focused on creation of a newgeneration of data transmission systems, including architecture for bothtransmitters and receivers that are optimized for FTN transmission. The systemincludes preprocessing of data conditioned to be streamed at the new fastertransmission rates. It is intended for data transmission over continuous timechannels that could be affected by noise fading, inter symbol interference,distortion and/or bandwidth limited constraints.
