Vaccine and Treatments for Recurrent Airway Obstruction (Rao) in Horses

詳細技術說明: Recurrent AirwayObstruction (RAO) is a serious respiratory disease similar to human asthmaaffecting as much as 15% of horse population around the world, persistingthroughout a horse’s life. This vaccine is the first-ever for the elimination of the diseaserather than symptom relief.

*Abstract: Most evidence suggests that RAO is the result of pulmonaryhypersensitivity to inhaled antigens located in hay dust, pollens and moldspores. Current methods of treatment include environmental and dietarymanagement as a means to reduce exposure to organic dusts and molds. Medicinaltreatments are directed towards symptomatic relief, and include the use ofbronchodilators and steroids—none of which completely eliminate or provide apermanent solution.
This technology is the first-ever vaccine for the eliminationof the disease rather than symptom relief. It consists of a unique peptidesequence derived from the Clara Cell 10kDa protein (CC10). CC10 is one memberof a family of anti-inflammatory defense proteins produced predominantly in theairway epithelium and some of the members of this family have been directlylinked to protection from asthma, allergy and related inflammatory responses.
