BackgroundSevere asthma (SA) remains a debilitating disease that is difficult to control by corticosteroids (CS), the standard therapy for mild to moderate asthma. Given that, the innovators explored the idea that the basis for CS unresponsive in SA is a distinct immune response that causes CS-refractory inflammation and airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR).Technology DescriptionThe innovators developed a novel mouse model to study corticosteroid refractory asthma. This mouse model of the disease mimics the human condition which has not been described to date.AdvantagesThis model will help researchers study the mechanisms that induce SA as well as provide a pre-clinical model to test novel therapies. This is the first mouse model that combines an allergen with a mucosal adjuvant to induce a disease state that resembles CS refractory severe asthma. Currently, this will be first suitable model available for severe asthma.Available for Non-exclusive Licensing
