Typing Human Platelet Antigens (HPAΓÇÖs)
Serologic typing for platelets antigens requires antibodies and platelets ofknown phenotypes that are in short supply or unavailable. DNA basedtyping can be done with readily available reagents on any DNA sample.

Typing for platelet-specific alloantigens is important for thediagnosis of immune thrombocytopenias, especially neonatalalloimmune thrombocytopenia (NATP). Typed platelet donors areneeded for some patients requiring platelet transfusions. Platelettyping may also be useful in assessing the risk of thrombosis.This series of patents is based on identification of DNA sequencesthat encode immunogenic platelet glycoprotein polymorphisms and covers DNA based typing for alloantigens of the HPA 1, 3, 4 and 5 systems.
