The inventors have discovered the gene that causes familial pancreatic cancer and the gene also plays a role in sporadic pancreatic cancer. Genotyping and sequencing led to the discovery of the mutated gene. The gene plays a role in cytoskeletal structure and interacts with several proteins that have been associated with cancer.
