*Abstract
This software package facilitates the rational design and implementation of infection control strategies across settings ranging from individual caregivers, through clinics, and up to clinic systems. The product supports two related but separate applications: 1)It allows the user to explore alternative infection control/pathogen containment strategies, identifying those demonstrating the greatest absolute effectiveness, the highest level of cost-effectiveness, and the lowest likelihood of catastrophic containment failure.2)It can identify departures from the expected levels of pathogen dissemination; that is, it can be used as a surveillance tool to identify system- or individual- level issues that compromise patient safety, and to generate "metrics," or measures, of caregiver, clinic, and clinic system performance.The software can be configured to reflect the unique characteristics of the user's clinic system (of both of both physical plant and system policy), the pathogen(s) under consideration, and economic considerations unique to the user's system. It does not require any specialized computer hardware, and runs on either Windows or Macintosh platforms.
