MIROPA-fs
The product is a Mid-Infra-Red Optical Parametric Amplifier, MIROPA, a device that emits ultra-short (≈200 femtosecond = 2 x 10-13s) “laser” pulses in the mid-infrared (MIR).
• Small footprint; compact
• Computer controlled; hands-free operation; turn key
• Robust long-term operation
• High beam quality
• Cost effective
• Air cooled
• High conversion efficiency
• Broad tuning range
Within the spectrum of commercial MIR lasers, MIROPA offers unique performance because it is broadly tuneable and provides ultra-short duration pulses. Its properties can also be tailored for specific applications: such as spectroscopy or Optical Coherence Tomography (3D MIR imaging) which both require broadband emission. The ultra-short pulse duration is advantageous for micro-machining (microsurgery) and in ultrafast chemical processes.
MIROPA has been engineered as a reliable turn-key source of MIR light. The MIROPA-fs offers a unique architecture that significantly reduces downtime in comparison to traditional optical parametric oscillator (OPO) systems used as light sources for various purposes, at a lower cost base.

The MIROPA-fs is a one-stage OPA (optical parametric amplifier) based on fan grating in MgO:PPLN. Operated around 60C, the crystal fan grating allows signal wavelengths between 1370-1530 nm to be generated from a 1045 nm pump-laser.
There are virtually no laser sources that can produce ultrashort pulse directly in the wavelength range mentioned above; the only option is to use nonlinear optical techniques to transfer energy from a higher frequency pump laser down into the mid infrared. MIROPA-fs offers a suitable alternative producing pulses around 200fsec in duration in the 3-4.5µm range (options for significantly shorter pulses can be integrated into the system design).
