Electrochromic smart glass can switch its optical state from transparent to a tinted state reversibly with the application of a small voltage, typically in the range of 3 to 5V. The electrochromic smart-glass devices in the market today typically rely on vacuum deposition technique which is prohibitively expensive and slow.

This technology offers a fully printable electrochromic process, whereby the active electrochromic nanomaterials synthesized are formulated into inkjet-printable inks. Inkjet printing itself is a fast and attractive technology that is capable of a uniform large area deposition as well as localized patterning. This solution-processible method is a fast yet low-cost alternative in depositing active materials onto various substrates.
