Researchers at the University of Nebraska—Lincoln have developed a method to electrochemically deposit organic dielectric materials on graphene.Quick Facts: •  The thickness of the dielectric material can be controlled by changing the deposition time.•  The electronic properties of graphene make it a highly desirable material for device applications and this method is one of only a few that exist to incorporate graphene into devices.•  The fabrication method utilizes equipment that is common in the fields of semiconductor processing and electrochemistry.•  The dielectric coatings can act as a seed layer so that high-κ dielectric materials can be combined with graphene in devices. •  The deposition method provides pin-hole free dielectric layers that are necessary for use in devices.
