Researchers at the University of South Florida have synthesized novel compounds that block farnesylation of ras protein, an important protein expressed by malignant cells. The compounds are farnesylamine derivatives.The most sought-after therapies in todayΓÇÖs cancer therapeutic market are safe cancer-fighting compounds. Currently, it is known that the compound known as farnesylamine is a potent inhibitor of rastransformed cells; however, farnesylamine is unstable. Like farnesylamine, these compounds are believed to be potent inhibitors of ras-transformed cells. The stability of these compounds may increase this potency without damage to healthy tissue. High specificity of these derivatives means that they work effectively against cancer with no side effects of standard chemotherapeutic regimen. These farnesylamine derivatives may meet todayΓÇÖs market demand for safe and effective cancer therapy.
