Our proprietary dried carrot pomace that has been shown to lower blood serum glucose levels and improve lipid profiles to normal levels in pre-diabetic and diabetic animals using the Nile rat model. Themarket for dietary fibers in foods and beverages is expected to reach $6.5billion by 2022 and includes diverse health and wellness applications forweight loss, gut health, blood sugar control and lowering cholesterol levels.Changes in taste and quality preferences for the growing number of healthconscious consumers as well as aging global populations drive industry’s needsto introduce new sources of functional fibers.
Carrotpomace powder (CPP) has potential to be at the top of this list as a leadingnew source of functional dietary fibers. It is currently considered a “wasteproduct” of carrot juice production; however, we have found CPP isolated usingour proprietary process to be highly enriched in both soluble and insolublefibers (greater than 50% by weight) while maintaining a low sugar-to-fiberratio in the final composition. When tested in the male Nile rat model of TypeII Diabetes, CPP dramatically improved mammalian carbohydrate metabolism,including lowering lowered blood glucose, cholesterol and triglycerideprofiles, while also reducing fat accumulation and weight gain. The health andwellness benefits of CPP were found to be more effective than comparable levelsof two other leading commercial healthy dietary fibers – insoluble celluloseand soluble inulin. CPP exerts its effects by beneficially alteringcarbohydrate uptake and the cecal microflora composition within thegastrointestinal tract. Complementingits superior performance as a functional dietary fiber, CPP is also costeffective and easy to incorporate into manufacturing processes.
