A Click Chemistry Technique to Quantify the Metabolic Activities of Cells
- 详细技术说明
- TECHNOLOGYDESCRIPTION:Faculty atthe University of Delaware have developed a method using click chemistry. Specificmolecules and fluorescent dyes are used throughout a designed process. Theseprocesses are carried out over various time periods. The results allow quantification of variousmetabolic activities.STAGE OF DEVELOPMENT:Prototypehas been designed and developed, with research still being conducted in the readyfor market stage.APPLICATIONS: Biomedical research oftenrequires a need to quantify metabolic cell activity, such as the synthesis ofnew molecules or degeneration of the extracellular matrix. These results can beapplied to drug and tissue engineering research. Using click chemistry andfluorescent dyes (a novel approach to synthesizing drug-like molecules), thesebiological processes can be quantified.PROBLEMS ADDRESSED: Current methods for measuringmetabolic cell activity can be quite costly, upwards of $640. Additionally, nocurrent click chemistry technique exists that quantifies the extracellularmatrix metabolism during long term organ culture. This method offers solutionsto both problems, while being highly sensitive, accurate, and non-invasive tothe living cells.
