- Title: Spark Plasma Joining of Ceramics and Composites Invention: This invention is a method for joining complicated high temperature ceramic parts with spark plasma and without the use of flux or foreign material and creating a homogeneous juntction. Background: Advanced technologies like hypersonic vehicles, turbine engines, and nuclear devices often require materials capable of withstanding extreme temperatures. Ultra-high temperature ceramics have the capability to survive extreme environments and this invention allows the joining of specialized ceramic parts that otherwise would be difficult to manufacture.
