Overview
Carbon dioxide emissions from power plants can bedetrimental to the environment. In general, these emissions may be reduced byincreasing steam pressure, utilizing a double reheat steam cycle, or reducingthe back pressure of the steam condenser. These steps, however, may bedifficult to achieve in practice, which has resulted in a need for a powerplant that is more effective in capturing carbon dioxide from fossil fuels.
UK researchers are developing a fossil-fuel fired power plant with increasedpower output that effectively captures carbon dioxide to address these needs.
Invention
UK researchers are developing afossil-fuel fired power plant that effectively captures carbon dioxide from theflue gas of fossil fuels. The plant features a post-combustion processingsystem configured to process flue gas through the use of a carbon dioxidescrubber and absorbing reagent. In order for the plant to run continuously, theabsorbing reagent is regenerated, with the power input of the plant beingincreased to accommodate this process. This plant design would be especiallybeneficial to plan manufacturers interested in minimizing their carbonfootprint by effectively and efficiently capturing carbon dioxide fromprocessed fossil fuels.
