Brief Tobacco Cessation Intervention Training Program for "Health Influencers"

详细技术说明
Title: Health Behavior Change Training Program (Reach) Invention: An in-person workshop and website that provides information and training for “helpers” and complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) practitioners to better help individuals to change harmful health behaviors, including tobacco cessation. Training focuses on “helping conversations” that avoid confrontation and emphasize intervention on the part of individuals’ social networks and the special training and backgrounds associated with CAM. Background: Some behavior cessation programs tend to underutilize the power of social networks. Additionally, in 2007 nearly 40% of U.S. adults reported using some form of CAM in the past 12 months, but there are not many efforts being currently made to engage CAM practitioners in public health programs. The Reach training programs for “helpers” and CAM practitioners seeks to address these gaps in public health training for behavioral change. Applications: • Public Healtho Tobacco cessationo Behavioral change Advantages: • Utilizes “helping conversations”, which emphasizes support for behavior change while avoiding confrontation or nagging• Training is based on a unique knowledge base resulting from 15 years of experience studying and training health influencers• CAM training design is based on extensive formative research and input from a national panel of internationally recognized CAM researchers and educators• Integrates conventional bio medicine and CAM with tailored approaches that take advantage of unique CAM training and backgrounds Related Publications:  • Myra L.
