Designing Objects via Interactive Evolution Driven by Eye-tracking
- 详细技术说明
- Interactive evolution allows a human user toevolve artifacts, guiding them through an evolutionary process that results inproduct designs the user finds interesting or useful. The ability to doso passively through eye tracking allows the potential for subconsciousfeedback to inform the creating of individually-tailored designs in real-timeinteractive advertising.
- *Abstract
-
Thistechnology is a type of Computer Aided Design which creates novel artifacts andproduct designs though its interactive interface thatcollects information based on a user's reaction to various potential designsof a product. Like most interactive design platforms, this technologyallows the user to react explicitly, by directing the design process towards something they have envisioned simplyby indicating which of the suggested designs they do or do not like -- a muchsimpler task than having to describe their ideal design from scratch. However, unlike previous platforms, this technology also allows the user to providepassive and implicit feedback though the involuntary and subconscious movementof their pupils. While these movements can direct search towards designswhich are familiar, novel, complex, or personally interesting, each of thesetypes of designs are thought to be important to the design process and serve ascrucial stepping stones towards a final product.
This technology could be usedfor anything from artistic pictures and sculptures to functional engineereddesigns like robots or basic consumer products. It can be applied to anyeye-tracking device, although the largest gain will occur when eye-tracking isperformed without the user setting up any additional hardware, e.g. using abuilt-in camera to remotely detect gaze direction (such as an integrated webcamfor website or television-based interactive advertising). Whileinteractive advertising currently appears more naturally through a webpage, thegrowth of Smart TVs and streaming-based, on-demand programming providespotential for interactive advertising and product design in the future -- inwhich a passive feedback interface will suddenly become a crucial concern. In a long-term vision, this system would be best suited forindividualized CGI product placement within streamed content, rather thandedicated commercial interruptions.
Potential Applications
- Designtool for objects, buildings, robots, art or other artifacts where the user mustsimply provide feedback for suggested designs instead of creating schematicsfor a product on their own.
- Advertisingtool for internet or television (given a sensor like an integrated webcam orXBOX Kinect) in which users can engage the interface (passively or actively)and be shown product designs specifically tailored to match their preferencesand catch their attention.
Advantages
- Interactive
- Designcan occur passively and automatically, based on the user's involuntary eyemovements
- Does not require additional hardware
