High-Force Knitted-Sleeve Fluidic Artificial Muscle Actuator
- 详细技术说明
- A fluid artificial muscle actuator was developed with a tubular-knit sleeve that expands radially and contracts axially by up to 66%, providing much higher actuation force in a smaller area compared to current pneumatic artificial muscles.
- *Abstract
-
The new actuator consists of a sealed elastomer tube (bladder) inside a tubular knitted-mesh sleeve made of high-stiffness fibers, such as ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene. When the bladder is pressurized, the sleeve expands by letting the loops of the fiber slide past each other, changing the dimensions of the rectangular cells in the stitch pattern. The invention will be useful for many industrial and robotic applications, especially where space is constrained.
Potential Applications:
- Industrial automation
- Aerospace vehicle actuators
- Robotics
Advantages:
- Higher actuation force
- Smaller actuators
