This invention introduces several plasmids and methods for time-efficient preparation of gene-disruption plant and animal libraries. Current technologies use a random shotgun approach that requires analysis of a high percentage of redundant plant or cell lines. This invention reduces the time and labor intensity of the process by systematically tagging a large percentage of a given genome and quickly identifying unnecessary redundant mutants.
Potential Commercial Applications:
The invention facilitates the preparation of gene-disruption libraries that are useful in determining gene function. The method can be applied to a wide variety of living organisms, including plants and animals as well as vertebrate and invertebrate cells.
Potential Advantages:
Redundant lines can easily be eliminated from libraries without significant analysis and a large number or mutants can be generated from only a few transformant anchor lines. Gene-disruption libraries can be created with less time and less labor. Genes with and without visible phenotypes can be analyzed.Patent: US7,220,893
