Monoclonal Antibody to Myosin heavy chain from all Vertebrates

*Abstract

Myosin, more specifically myosin heavy chain (MHC), is a major structural protein, integral to the development and function of sarcomeric muscles. Due to its functional diversity among vertebrates, common research practices to identify this protein amongst various vertebrate classes are desirable.

An IgG2b monoclonal antibody produced from a hybridoma clone MF20, generated with chicken pectoralis myosin as antigen, recognizes an epitope common to sarcomeric myosin heavy chains in the skeletal and cardiac muscles of all vertebrates. This MAb has been demonstrated to be effective for localizing myosin in cells and tissues by light and electron microscopic immunocytochemistry, for the biochemical detection of myosin by western blot analyses, and for immunoprecipitation of myosin in solution.

This MAb is useful for identifying myosin heavy chain in all vertebrates, making it a very valuable tool for comparative and developmental research with all vertebrate model organisms, e.g. axolotls, zebrafish, mice, rats and humans. It has also been employed to follow the differentiation of stem cells into cardiomyocytes.
