Cathode Materials for Sodium Ion Electrochemical Cells
- 详细技术说明
- University researchers have developed materials suitable for use as a cathode in a sodium ion electrochemical cell or battery. Reduction to practice of the invention has led to a full cell energy density that is significantly higher (by about 50%) than those described in recent literature for similar systems.
- *Abstract
-
Research efforts in the field of rechargeable batteries have focused mainly on lithium systems the past few decades. There is significant unexplored opportunity for the use of sodium in ion batteries. Lithium is relatively scarce whereas sodium is highly abundant. A challenge for sodium battery systems is the lack of a high energy density cathode material which is safe and low cost. Development of such would lead to sodium ion batteries for various applications, e.g., large-scale stationary electrical storage on the electrical grid, or batteries for electric vehicles.
