A method is presented in plasma arc welding techniques designed to allow for joining SiC/SiC SMI to itself or to monolithic, sintered SiC employing a filler material. The method entails control of weld variables, including specimen pre-heat temperature, welding current, welding current ramp rates, plasma flow, and linear welding rate, to produce successful CMC/CMC welds.
