*Abstract
High-Pressure Density-Driven Separation of CO2 The High-Pressure Density-Driven Separation (HDS) technology created by Liquid Carbonic and University of Missouri is an intuitive and effective method of capturing Carbon Dioxide (CO2). Climate change is a reality that needs to be addressed by the energy producers in order to insure their long-term success in market. CO2 makes up about 80% (by mass) of greenhouse gas emitted by human activities, and therefore reducing its production/release into our atmosphere plays a key role in responsible energy production. Flue gas from coal fired power plants contain up to 13% CO2, and gas-fired power plants contain up to 8% CO2. However, few plans exist to effectively and economically remove CO2 from flue gas. The present technology seeks to solve this issue through an innovative pressure-based solution that is economically viable.HDS technology can take a constant input of vapor solutions (such as the flue gas from coal plants and other fossil fuel energy faculties), and output highly pressurized CO2 (8 MPa). Also, the HDS system is able to accomplish this with a 70% reduction in capture costs. Furthermore, this technology could be used in processes of upgrading fuel gases containing carbon dioxide, and separation of hydrogen from fuel gas vapor solutions.
