WATER-ENHANCED PROCESS FOR CONVERTING GLYCEROL TO ACETOLThe herein disclosed process provides alternatives to earlier processes for converting glycerol to acetol. A preferred method for converting the acetol to propylene glycol is also disclosed. POTENTIAL AREAS OF APPLICATIONS:• Acetol is likely a feedstock that can be used to produce many other compoundsMAIN ADVANTAGES OF INVENTION:• Little to no production of ethylene glycol co-product (expensive to separate)• Higher selectivity to propylene glycol• Milder reaction conditions (much lower pressure)• Higher temperatures allow for reduced catalyst loadingsPOSSIBLE DISADVANTAGES OF INVENTION:• NoneSTATE OF DEVELOPMENT:• Testing chemistry on pilot scaleFURTHER R&D REQUIRED:• Pilot scale production and full specification of commercial facilityLICENSING POTENTIAL:• University seeks licensee with the potential to commercializePATENT STATUS:• Patent application is plannedINVENTOR(S): Galen J.
