- Lead Inventors: Shree Kumar NayarDescription: A method and system for accurately imaging scenes having large brightness variations are described. The brightness of the scene is adjusted based on the object of interest in the scene.The method and system comprises of an imager and the processing arrangement includes an imager controller to image the scene that is captured. The imager has a preferred brightness range representing the objects of interest. An image processor processes an image by an object detector to identify a portion of the image representing the objects of interest. An exposure processor determines the brightness value of the objects of interest within the preferred brightness range of the imager.The method provides an imaging system capable of imaging changing scenes to generate video or still images having high dynamic range, without requiring precision optics such as a precision beam splitter for alignment of images acquired by multiple imagers.
