A Fast Quantitative Mass Spectrometric Analysis for 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3
A new technique has been developed for the accurate measurement of1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (1,25(OH)2D3) using mass spectrometry. Theassay is specific for 1,25(OH)2D3, and it can be performed in a matterof minutes with simple sample preparation protocols. Vitamin D3 iscritical to many physiological processes, and 1,25(OH)2D3 is its activemetabolite. A 1,25(OH)2D¬3 deficiency can lead to organ and bonedisorders, while excess 1,25(OH)2D3 is associated with digestivedisorders and ischemic heart disease. Therefore, measurement of1,25(OH)2D3 is an emerging tool in preventative medicine. Existingdiagnostics are plagued by inaccurate and irreproducible results, andthis new diagnostic technology can potentially overcome these issues.
