In this technology, advanced constitutive relations are used in engineering mechanics to simulate measured material behavior in the laboratory, and in analytical models (finite elements/difference). The software transforms the representation of constitutive relations, as well as stress and strain quantities from a series of mathematical equations and matrix quantities to multidimensional geometric/visual objects in a dynamic, interactive display environment.

In this technology, advanced constitutive relations are used in engineering mechanics to simulate measured material behavior in the laboratory, and in analytical models (finite elements/difference). The software transforms the representation of constitutive relations, as well as stress and strain quantities from a series of mathematical equations and matrix quantities to multidimensional geometric/visual objects in a dynamic, interactive display environment. 

DESCRIPTION/DETAILS 

This technology represents a new approach to the development, evaluation, and use of material constitutive models and similar stress-strain relationships used in analytical models. The software introduces a novel interactive visualization development and learning environment for material constitutive relations referred to as VizCoRe. VizCoRe:

  • is a software workbench to represent constitutive relations and the implied material behavior that will transform complex mathematical formulations into visual renderings that are easily understood and manipulated. 
  • introduces advanced renderings of three-dimensional states of stress and strain using glyph and hyper-streamline display techniques. This is a novel implementation of these techniques for representing constitutive models and related stress-strain states. 
  • integrates and links computed material response in analytical models with the underlying fundamental constitutive behavior at the element level. 
  • includes new routines to systematical probe material constitutive models. 
  • includes new representation of material stiffness in three dimensions 
  • is an internet-based computer platform that is independent and easily used on a desktop computer system. 
The software can also be packaged as a standalone applicationThis software provides users of analysis codes an easy way to examine material response at a point and relate it to the assumed constitutive behavior. It allow the user to enter laboratory data and data from numerical analysis and to plug-in their own constitutive model. The software also incorporates concepts of virtual reality to allow the user to "walk" through the constitutive relations. A force feedback capability can be added to allow the user to "feel" a stress or stain. A sound component can be added to allow the user to hear the stress and strain.

APPLICATIONS 

The software is designed to be a stand-alone product that could be used over the Internet, but it could also be packaged as an add-on to existing software. It has capability to import data output from large scale finite element/finite difference analysis codes. The computer-aided engineering (CAE) industry, including:
