Therare-earth based hard magnetic nanoflakes technology could potentiallyrevolutionize the rare earth permanent magnet industry due to its low-costproduction processes, superior magnetic properties, ultra-high specific surfacearea ratio, excellent coating ability, low packing density, strong shape and/orcrystallographic anisotropy. In addition, themagnetic nanoflake technology can fill the permanent magnet productioncapability gap with the magnet thicknesses between 10 μm (<10 μm, by sputteringor pulsed laser deposition) to 1000 μm (>1000 μm, by machining). Ourhigh performance magnetic nanoflakes could be used to fabricate novel smaller, lighter,faster devices with higher efficiency and lower cost for the electronics and power conversion markets. Themagnetic nanoflake technology can possibly have a great impact onMicro-Electro-Mechanical-Systems (MEMS), sensors, Terahertz (THz) devices, FreeElectron Lasers (FEL), periodic permanent magnets structures for beam focusing,high performance motors and generators, energy harvesting devices, windturbines, wireless telecommunications including cell phonesand GPS devices, medical tools and systems (including MRI, CT and motor-drivensurgery tools), electronic devices, miniature microphones and headphones, automotive applications,hybrid and all-electric vehicles, paints, high-gradient magneticseparators/filters, magnetic sealant ferro-fluids, appliances, and computerhard disc drives.
