By studying the pharmacokinetics of clozapine, our researchers have developed 20 tricyclic piperazine compounds which are similar in structure to clozapine, in order to achieve superior therapeutic profiles in treating schizophrenia. Two of the 20 compounds showed positive in vivo results in pre-clinical rat models. Both of these compounds do not have the chemical structure which is associated with the serious blood toxicity that appears as a result of clozapine use.
